Grasping for Something to Cling To

"Though he was in the form of God,  Jesus did not deem equality with God something to be grasped at. Rather, he emptied himself and took the form of a slave, being born in the likeness of men. He was known to be of human estate."    Philippians 2:6-7

Today is the Feast of the Annunciation. It was moved this year because of Holy Week. This Bible verse struck me this morning and made me want to share. Why? We all at times seem like we are reaching out to God, but end up feeling empty. So we start grasping at all kinds of "spiritual activities and deeds" thinking we are working in union with God. We will include him in certain days of the week, or pencil him in for this activity or that, but do we totally give our whole self up? I never took this verse in this manner before, but it hit a perfect cord today. He wants ALL, no exceptions.

I will try to explain: God does not want us to "fit" him into our lives by picking and choosing various activities that are religious. This becomes fulfilling a mere duty and usually empty action. No, he wants us to empty ourselves and take the form of slaves. Like the Blessed Mother did, and like Jesus did in giving up his whole self to become human. So, if you desire God, if you want him in your life....give up to him your whole life without any stipulations. Stop grasping for him here and there, this is not union, rather give up yourself and serve him whole and entire.

To Jesus through Mary, Amen!
You pray for me, I pray for you, that we live holy lives by emptying ourselves for God.
